When will the new TSCO training course be available?
The TSCO training course will be available from the 1 July 2008.
What will be issued after attending and successfully passing the TSCO course?
Lantra Awards will issue candidates, who have successfully passed the TSCO course, with a certificate. NB Please note that Lantra Awards will be able to issue TSCO certificates as from 15 July 2008
What if I do not pass the TSCO training course?
Depending on your final test result there are 2 courses of action.
• If your mark is between 70% and 74% then you only need to re-sit the exam. If you do not pass again you must re-sit the whole course.
• If your mark is below 70% then you must re-sit the whole course.
How do I achieve my TSCO Black Card?
As specified in the Specification for Highway Works from the 1 April 2009 TSCO will be required to meet the following criteria:
• Certificate of achievement from the NHSS 12A Foreman’s Training Course (2 day)
• Certificate of achievement from the TSCO Training Course (1 day)
• Certificate of achievement of an approved Health & Safety Qualification (e.g. 1 day: ISOH
“Working Safety” or CITB “Site Management Safety Training Scheme” as a minimum, or any
NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma) NB you only need to submit a certificate for ONE of these
recognised courses. You do not have to hold all these health and safety
qualifications.
• First Aid at Work Certificate in accordance with The Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations
(1981) (4 day course)
How do I apply for my TSCO Black Card?

When sending in your application form, you must include certificates for the following:
• Certificate of achievement from the NHSS 12A Foreman’s Training Course (2 day)
• Certificate of achievement from the TSCO Training Course (1 day)
• Certificate of achievement of an approved Health & Safety Qualification (e.g. 1 day: ISOH “Working Safety” or CITB “Site Management Safety Training Scheme” as a minimum, or any NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma) NB you only need to submit a certificate for ONE of these recognised courses. You do not have to hold all these health and safety qualifications.
• First Aid at Work Certificate in accordance with The Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations (1981) (4 day course) NB: Please note that Lantra Awards will welcome complete applications for the TSCO cards as from 1 August 2008.
What if I don’t send proof of my achievements with my application form?
Your application form will be returned to you, unless Lantra Awards receives full supporting information with the form.
What about my existing TSCO (Blue) Card?
Existing TSCO Blue Cards will become obsolete as from the 1 April 2009. No further TSCO Blue cards will be issued from the 1 July 2008.
Does this mean that the criteria I met to achieve the old TSCO card becomes invalid? No, part of criteria to become a TSCO under the new scheme is to successfully pass the 12A Foreman’s Course.
How can this be utilised?
Those that use the existing criteria to meet the new requirements will receive a TSCO (Black) card. NB The expiry date will align with expiry date of your old TSCO card and you must meet the additional requirements as stated above.
What if I hold a blue card but decide to complete the Foreman refresher course in addition to the TSCO training course?
In addition, you will need to complete a first aid and a health & safety qualification as described above. Once the all criteria is met and we receive your application form you will receive a new black card with an expiry date of 5 years from the date of your TSCO training course.
For how long is my card valid?
New applicants (once they have met all the criteria) will receive a card which is valid for five years.
Applicants using their TSCO (Blue) Card to obtain a card under the new criteria will receive a card
which will have the same expiry as their TSCO (Blue) Card.
